Program Notes
About the Work: This piece is a musical impression, capturing the memory of a leisurely Saturday morning spent fishing with a friend by the riverbank behind the music building during my time as a student at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
The music is deliberately quiet, sentimental, and reflective of the sights and sounds, as well as the gently blowing breeze surrounding the slow-moving current of the river.
"Fishing with a Friend" was composed between June 12 and June 18, 2015, during a fly fishing and camping trip at Indian Creek Campground in Yellowstone National Park. I worked on the composition in my makeshift studio at campsite #73, dedicating the early mornings and late evenings to composing while spending the afternoons and early evenings fly fishing.
