About the Work…
“A voice in the wilderness…”, was composed as a gift to Gary Scudder, the Director of Bands at Stockdale Christian School in Bakersfield, CA. Gary was my predecessor at Whittier Christian Schools, and he certainly left behind a remarkable legacy. Gary possesses an incredible level of dedication and creativity in developing pedagogical materials for a wide range of instrumental students, from elementary through high school and beyond. I have been using Gary’s teaching materials for over thirty years, starting with his handwritten originals and now the beautifully printed “Music Workouts Band Method” and “Rhythm Workouts.” His influence in music education accompanied by his sincerely held faith in the life of Jesus Christ, is both profound and enduring.

“A voice in the wilderness...” is intended as an uplifting musical impression based on a compelling proclamation of an Old Testament prophecy and its realization in the New Testament.
“The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord; Make straight in the desert a highway for our God.” (Isaiah 40:3)
