Program Notes

About the Work... An impression and reflection on Psalm 1:3:
“He is like a tree planted beside flowing streams that bear fruit in its season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.”

This work was composed as a gift to Glen Kamida, an amazing teacher, musician, and friend to many. Glen’s 40-year teaching career has left a wonderful legacy and a truly positive influence on his students who range from early childhood to ages 80+. (See Glen’s non-profit work with nTyme https://www.ntyme.org/ )

“... like a tree planted beside flowing streams...” was written with the younger musician in mind with limited rhythms and ranges. Since Glen is a noted clarinetist, the orchestration places the clarinet section at the beginning of the work with a flowing progression of notes reflective of a quiet stream. The work weaves back and forth between quiet, flowing, and majestic passages.
